A U.S. electric grid operator has issued a warning for 14 central states that it may implement rolling blackouts due to the heat wave and increased electrical demand.
SPP issued a level three alert to let the public know that the grid operator has used some or all of its operating reserves to serve demand but so far has not had to order rolling blackouts despite the high risk.
SPP says it expects to remain under the resource advisory until 8:00 p.m. CT Tuesday.

The following states are under the advisory where SPP provides service to portions of the states:
- Arkansas
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Louisiana
- Minnesota
- Missouri
- Montana
- Nebraska
- New Mexico
- North Dakota
- Oklahoma
- South Dakota
- Texas
- Wyoming
The Southwest Power Poll (SPP) is a Regional Transmission Organization headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas and mandated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). SPP ensures there are reliable power supplies and manages the electic transmission infrastructure across a multistate territory.
Earlier this year, SPP expanded its territory into the Western Interconnection, integrating utilities across seven states including parts of Arizona, Colorado, and Utah.
