BARTOW, Fla.<\/strong> – <\/span>For more than\u00a0a year now, animal welfare advocates have been raising concerns about conditions at the\u00a0Polk County Animal\u00a0Control shelter. Now, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, which\u00a0runs the shelter, is\u00a0updating the community on the ongoing improvements made\u00a0to the\u00a0facility.<\/p>

During Tuesday’s Polk County Commission\u00a0meeting, Commissioner Michael Scott of District 5 talked about the improvements he’s seen at the shelter.\u00a0He provided a\u00a0photo of the\u00a0outdoor enrichment play area for dogs, saying the Sheriff’s Office has added a pool, toys,\u00a0and obstacle courses.<\/p>

“I think, for lack of credit, the sheriff’s office does hear the concerns regarding some of the shelter improvements that are needed,” Scott said.<\/p>
