AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Auburndale police arrested a man after they said he fired two shots at his girlfriend and her young child during a domestic dispute Thursday.

Auburndale domestic shooting arrest
What we know:
According to the Auburndale Police Department, Danford Thornton-Swain, 20, was involved in an incident with his girlfriend around 11:45 a.m. near Timothy Street and Ernest Drive.
Police said Thornton-Swain hit the woman during the dispute, took her cellphone and damaged it, preventing her from contacting law enforcement.
As the woman ran away from Thornton-Swain while holding her young child, police said he fired two rounds from a gun in their direction.

Neither the woman nor the child was hit by the gunfire, according to police.
Suspect arrested near Auburndale motel

After the shooting, Thornton-Swain fled the area toward Motel 92 along U.S. 92 West, according to police.
Officers located him a short time later and took him into custody.
Thornton-Swain faces the following charges:
- Two counts of attempted murder
- Domestic battery
- Improper exhibition of a firearm
- Discharging a firearm in public
- Witness tampering
- Criminal mischief
- Robbery without a firearm
What we don’t know:
Police did not provide additional details about the circumstances leading up to the domestic dispute.
